A Message from the Principal
9-6-11
To Parents/Guardians:
Your child is attending a school receiving Title I federal funds through the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. An Elementary Instructional Specialist and/or Para-Educator will be providing assistance to students on an "as needed" basis as determined by the recommendation of the students' scores on our district assessments. NCLB requires that parents be notified of their right to know professional qualifications of their child's teacher(s) in core academic subject areas, including the following:
- The type of state credential or license that the teacher holds. Some teachers will have a credential in a particular subject area, such as English or Mathematics and others will have a multiple subject credential, which allows them to teach a variety of subjects, such as in elementary schools.
- The education level and subject area of the teacher's college degree(s). Al teachers have a bachelor's degree and many teachers have graduate degrees beyond the bachelor's, such as a masters of doctoral degree.
In addition to qualifications of the teacher, if a para-educator provides your child services, you may also request information about his or her qualifications. Many para-educators have two years of college, and others have passed a test that verifies their qualifications.
If you would like information regarding staff qualifications, please contact Mrs. Sarah Moore, HVS' Human Resources Department, at 248-684-8293.
Sincerely,

Steven Chisik

A Message from the Principal:
At the start of each year there are always a few parents who inquire how we go about placing students. It is always a pleasure to explain the amount of work that our staff spends on creating the best learning teams possible.
At the end of last year I attended each placement meeting and observed the careful consideration which each professional put into the placement of our students. I can assure you each class is intentionally created to provide the best learning communities possible. Staff members consider many different aspects when making placement decisions. Teachers are very familiar with our students and place them in classes that are most conducive to the individual needs of each child.
With this being said, it is very important that the placement of each student remains intact. It is my request that parents trust the staff at Brooks has made the best placement decision for each child in the building.
Still unsure? I encourage you to express placement related concerns with your child’s new teacher. It is our perspective that providing a staff member with concerns up front allows us to better meet a child’s individual needs and to ensure the potential of having the best year yet!
