Huron Valley Schools’ Superintendent Receives State Communicator Award

Jackie JohnstonJacqueline Johnston, Huron Valley Schools Superintendent, is the recipient of the “Outstanding Superintendent Communicator Award” from the Michigan Schools Public Relations Association (MSPRA).

This outstanding award annually recognizes a practicing superintendent of schools or CEO of an education agency, for outstanding leadership in school public relations and communications.  In order to qualify for this award, the superintendent or CEO must demonstrate the value of a year round, ongoing program of internal and external communications and support communications with budget allocations, staffing and training.

Johnston was presented with the award at the MSPRA Annual Fall Conference in Grand Rapids on November 6th.

HVS Appoints New Administrators
Huron Valley Schools is pleased to announce the following new administrators.
Kevin McKennaKevin McKenna has been named principal for Muir Middle School where he replaces retiring principal Gayle Lizzet.   McKenna comes to Muir from Milford High School where he was assistant principal since 2006.  Prior to becoming assistant principal, Mr. McKenna was a high school and middle school teacher for six years.  He is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree and received his Masters in Education Leadership from EMU in August 2005.  He also holds an Administrator Certificate from the State of Michigan.

Jill McDonaldJill McDonald is the new Oxbow Community School principal, replacing Peg Berry who retired this year.  McDonald comes to Oxbow from White Lake Middle School where she was assistant principal since 2005.  Prior to joining the White Lake staff, she was associate principal at Lakeland High School for four years.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Central Michigan University and her M. Ed. in Educational Leadership from Saginaw Valley State University.

Dr. Deirdre BradyDr. Deirdre Brady is the new principal for Heritage Elementary, replacing retiring Frank Bateman.   Brady comes to Heritage from Country Oaks Elementary School where she was the Lead Teacher / Building Support Coordinator since 2006.  She served as interim assistant principal at White Lake Middle School during this school year and also served as the District’s Talent Development Coordinator. Dr. Brady has her doctorate in educational leadership and taught for 14 years in Huron Valley before becoming the Lead Teacher at Country Oaks.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Bowling Green State University, her M.Ed. and Ed. S. and Ph. D. from Oakland University.

Eric DziobakEric Dziobak comes to Milford High School from Highland Middle School where he has been a teacher since 1994.   He received his Bachelors of Science in Education and Masters of Arts in Educational Administration and Community Leadership from Central Michigan University, and most recently graduated from the Aspiring Principals’ Leadership Academy.

 

HVS Awards First Time Life Long Learner Award

Dr. Nancy CorattiDr. Nancy Coratti, Deputy Superintendent, recently received the prestigious Life Long Learner Award from the Huron Valley Schools Board of Education.  The first of its kind for the District, the award was initiated by Board Vice President John Branstetter to honor outstanding individuals who optimize life long learning.
